Art Post: The Offering

I'm a day late for the Brushstrokes and Broomsticks deadline but [info]hydaspes was kind enough to give me an extension. She was also kind enough to give me this painting. Thankyouthankyouthankyou.

Title: The Offering
Medium: Painter 8, PS7
Rating: PG. It's kind of disturbing.
Based on: Rosso Fiorentino's unfinished painting, The Allegory of Salvation with the Virgin, etc.
A/N: The picture is posted at the [info]arth_hp lj, and the details are here behind the cuts. BUT LOOK AT THE FULL PIC FIRST. And have a nice day :)

I have no idea what those winged things are. I was going for Dementors originally. So...winged Dementors! Err...let's just go with it.

Now maybe I can catch up on commenting & emails. (I'll send the pic tomorrow, [info]oconel! I promise!)

You're right, it's kind of disturbing. Draco being offered to Voldemort like that... Creepy but very good drawing!! I like the winged-dementors and the whole style.

Don't worry about the pic, send it whenever you can (to gmail, please).

Thank you, hon :)
It took me a really long time to figure out what the scene was going to be, but I think with that painting as a reference it was going to be creepy no matter what.

whenever? ...ok tomorrow then :)

Damn, damn, damn, I love these. You've turned Fiorentino into Goya (dark period)! Mwah!

Thank you!
You know for a few minutes I had considered taking the unfinished Rosso to its logical Mannerist conclusion and wrapping Voldemort in pink and baby blue...

Oustanding. It reminds me Goya in his latest pictures, mainly because of some details in this pic's style such as the color palette you used (the predomination of dark brown and dark green), the stumped edges of figures and the brush usage. It scares.

Thank you!
Yeah, the Rosso doesn't look very much like his work because he never put the final colors on. I saw the painting at LACMA and it is very scary, especially full size.

Wow! That's gorgeous, Miss Monkey. I continue to be absolutely astounded by your talent.

And I like the idea of winged Dementors. Kind of a Wizard of Oz/HP crossover thing.

*blushes furiously* Thank you!
Well they were flying all over the place in the POA movie so I was like, eh, why not wings?

Oh god, excuse me but that is just terrifying...don't think I've ever seen a creepier piece of fanart. Wow. Really well-done! *shivers*

The painting is SO creepy. I've seen it at LACMA in it's full glory. It's my favorite Rosso by far though.

Wow! There's such a medieval majesty and power to this work. I'm very impressed. I'm here, BTW, curtesy of [info]kaalee, who holds your work in very high regards.

I don't even know where to start. Your appreciation of other artists and the way you structure your art to include the essence of either the artist or the piece is astounding.

I love how you chose the darks and lights here. I also love that you didn't tell us the characters (other than the possibility of the dementors in the back.) I recognized your Draco here and I'm assuming the red-eyed scary old man type thing is Voldemort and the offer-er is Snape? yes? The nose make it snape-ish to me.

Anyway, there's something about the blurring of different pieces of this that makes it feel so surreal to me. And creepy. And, omg, your coloring is amazing - just the sheer depth of the colors that you've used. wow.

man. I'm such a fangirl. *adores*

I'm really pleased you think this captured the essence of Rosso. This is one of my favorite paintings so this piece was really hard/important for me. I was worried when I was making changes that it would lose the qualities that attracted me to it in the first place.

yey! you got all the characters right :) It is Snape and Draco and their lurve is so beauti... err... (it was snape/draco until I drew Draco and he looked so damn young. So now it's draco + snape father figure)

*clings to fangirl* SO MUTUAL

Thank you, hon!!!
